Toronto renovations
After the trades, before you settle back in
Many Toronto renovations happen in homes people are still living in: a basement finished under a family house, a new kitchen in a semi, a bathroom redone in a condo suite. The dust doesn’t stay in the room that was renovated.
- Basements. Finishing a basement, or adding a suite in one, sends fine drywall dust up the stairs and through forced-air vents into the rooms above.
- Older houses. Opening plaster walls in a Victorian or Edwardian house releases a pale, fine dust that settles on sills, trim and floors across the house.
- Kitchens and bathrooms. Tile cutting, sanding and new cabinetry leave residue on counters, fixtures and cabinet fronts.
- Condo suites. Many buildings set hours for renovation work and ask contractors to book the service elevator. Book your clean for when the work is finished, and tell us the building’s rules.

The clean
What the clean covers
Your cleaner works through the living areas, kitchen and bathrooms, top to bottom:
- Surfaces, shelves and ledges dusted in every room
- Cabinet and drawer fronts wiped in the kitchen and bathrooms
- Sinks, counters, the stovetop and the outside of the dishwasher and fridge
- Tub, shower, reachable shower walls and glass enclosures
- Rugs vacuumed; hard floors vacuumed and mopped
Added when you book: interior walls, window glass, inside cabinets and drawers, inside kitchen appliances and hand-wiped baseboards. Materials, offcuts and large debris go with your contractor before the clean.
Timing
When to book it
- After the last trade. Once the painters and finishers are done and the tools are out, so every surface can be reached.
- Before the furniture goes back. Clearing the dust from empty floors and shelves first keeps it off your sofa and rugs.
- Moving in as well? Pair it with move-in cleaning in Toronto for the rest of the home.

How much does post-renovation cleaning cost in Toronto?
From $439 before 13% HST for a studio or one-bedroom under 600 sq ft, and from $502.50 for a two-bedroom. Your price depends on your home’s size and any extras, such as interior walls (from $157.50) or inside the cabinets (from $61), and the booking form shows it before you book.
The work was in the basement. Does the rest of the house need cleaning?
Usually, yes: fine dust travels up the stairs and through the vents of a forced-air system. Book the clean for the whole home and add the finished basement extra ($88.50) so the new space is part of it.
Can you clean after a condo suite renovation?
Yes. Tell us your building’s rules for trades and any elevator booking, and choose a time once the work is finished and the contractor has cleared the suite.
Who takes away the renovation debris?
Your contractor. Your cleaner takes care of the dust and residue on every surface, so plan the pickup of materials, offcuts and large debris before your clean.
What if some dust was missed?
Walk through the rooms once we’re done. Tell us within 24 hours and we’ll come back within 5 days to re-clean what was missed, at no cost: that’s the Hive Promise.
