After the renovation, before you move back in
Vancouver renovations follow the housing: a Vancouver Special opened up, a character house brought up to date, a suite added downstairs, or a strata kitchen redone under the building’s rules.
- Vancouver Specials. In the boxy two-storey houses built across the East Side and South Vancouver from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s, drywall dust from one floor drifts up or down the open stairwell to the other.
- Character houses. Old lath and plaster, opened up in an early-1900s house in Kitsilano or Mount Pleasant, turns to a pale powder that ends up on window sills and wood trim well away from the work.
- New suites. Adding a basement or garden suite means framing, drywall and flooring under a lived-in house, and the dust finds its way upstairs through the stairwell and the heating ducts.
- Strata suites. Many strata bylaws require approval before a renovation and set the hours trades can work. Book your clean for after the last trade, and let us know the building’s rules.

The clean
What your cleaner clears
Top down, room by room: living areas first, then the kitchen and bathrooms:
- Dust wiped from surfaces, shelves, ledges and sills
- Cabinet doors and drawer fronts in the kitchen and bathrooms wiped
- Counters, sinks and the stovetop, with the outside of the fridge and dishwasher
- Tub, shower glass and the shower walls within reach
- Rugs vacuumed; hard floors vacuumed, then mopped
Extras on the booking form: interior walls, paint & residue spot removal (post-renovation only, from $63), window glass, the inside of cabinets, drawers and appliances, and hand-wiped baseboards. Leftover materials, offcuts and big debris go with your contractor before the clean.
Timing
Getting the timing right
- When the last trade has packed up. With the painters gone and the tools out, every surface is within reach.
- While the rooms are still empty. Clearing the dust before the sofa, rugs and beds go back keeps it out of the fabric.

Do you remove paint splatters and sticker residue?
Yes, add Paint & residue spot removal when you book a post-renovation clean: this paid extra costs $63 for homes under 1,200 sq ft, $94.50 for 1,200–1,999 sq ft, $157.50 for 2,000–3,999 sq ft, $252 for 4,000–4,999 sq ft and $630 for 5,000–7,000 sq ft, before 5% GST; for homes over 7,000 sq ft, contact us for a quote. Your cleaner uses surface-safe tools and products for light spot removal of fresh paint flecks, small drips and splatters, and tape, sticker or adhesive residue on hard surfaces such as hard floors, tile, glass, sills, frames and fixtures. Paint on carpet or unsealed or unfinished wood, large spills, overspray or roller spatter across whole floors, dried paint needing stripping, solvents or sanding, and wall touch-ups are for your painter or contractor. Not every mark comes off; your cleaner removes what comes off safely.

A studio or one-bedroom under 600 sq ft starts from $439 before 5% GST; a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home from $502.50. Extras like interior walls (from $157.50) or cabinet interiors (from $61) go on at booking, with your total shown first.
We added a basement suite. Should the whole house be cleaned?
Usually, yes: fine dust climbs the stairwell and travels through the ducts into the rooms above. Book the whole house and add the finished basement extra ($88.50): the new suite is then cleaned in the same visit.
Can you clean a strata suite after a renovation?
Yes. Let us know the strata’s rules for trades and elevator use, then pick a time after the work is signed off and the suite is cleared.
Do you remove renovation debris?
Leave that to your contractor: tools, leftover materials and large debris should be gone before we arrive. Your cleaner then clears the dust and debris they leave behind.
What if I find dust after the clean?
Walk through once your cleaner is done. If something was missed, let us know within 24 hours: under the Hive Promise a cleaner comes back within 5 days to fix it, at no cost.
