What a move-out clean includes
A move-out clean treats the whole unit as one job, room by room:
- Kitchen: oven exterior and door glass, stovetop degreased, range hood and filters, fridge exterior and top, cabinet fronts and hardware, backsplash scrubbed, counters, sink and faucet descaled, and garbage and recycling taken out (add the inside of the oven and fridge when you book).
- Bathrooms: tubs, showers and glass doors de-soaped, toilets cleaned inside and out, sinks and faucets descaled, mirrors streak-free, tiles and grout lines scrubbed, exhaust fans and light fixtures wiped down.
- Living spaces and bedrooms: surfaces dusted, including shelves, window sills, baseboards, door frames and switch plates; vents and register covers wiped; under furniture vacuumed and mopped where accessible; closets wiped down inside.
- Floors: vacuumed throughout, edges and corners included, and mopped everywhere it is safe to mop.
The details on a landlord’s checklist are standard, not an upsell: interior window tracks and sills, inside closet shelves, behind large appliances where accessible, and a final pass on the spots people notice first, such as the top of the fridge, the inside of the microwave, the oven door glass and the grout lines. Empty the closets, drawers and cupboards first, and schedule garbage and recycling removal before cleaning day, because a unit with nothing left behind is easier to clean thoroughly.
